"MV Pittsburg"

Reconstruction

1982

The worst shipping crisis since 1932 or even 1907 in 1982 also left its mark on F. Laeisz. As a result, all current shipping activities are transferred to the newly established firm F. Laeisz Schiffahrtsgesellschaft mbh +Co. in which Mr. Nikolaus W. Schües and F. Laiesz (but only for a limited period of time) have shares.

1983

After the sale of the two motor vessels PAMINA and PALOMA, the Bremen-based dockyard Vulkan is commissioned to construct the OBO-Carrier PHAROS, which is launched in 1983. Following 20 years of successful operation, the MV "PHAROS" is sold to China. In the same year, the world’s first banana full container vessel, MS "PURITAN", subsequently revolutionizes the transportation of bananas. Constructed in Japan in 1983, it now not only carried bananas, but also, among other things, deep-frozen shrimps, vegetables and foliage plants. In 2003, after 20 successful years in operation, this vessel is sold to Chiquita Brands in exchange for the shares of AFC.

1989

MV "Panama Senator" and MV "Paris Senator" are the pioneers of the era of what is considered “major vessels“ in 1989.
